Remote Learning

Remote Education Provision

St Margaret Clitherow School

In the event of school closures or where pupils are required to learn from home, St Margaret Clitherow School will provide remote learning to ensure children can continue their education. Our remote learning approach is designed to mirror, as closely as possible, the learning that normally takes place in school.

Daily Remote Learning Structure

Each year group will follow a daily timetable through Microsoft Teams.

Live Teaching

From Monday to Thursday, children will take part in live sessions delivered by their class teacher:

  • English / Phonics

  • Mathematics / Number

Children are expected to:

  • Log on at 9:00am and 1:30pm for registration

  • Wear their school uniform

  • Participate in lessons through their class Microsoft Teams channel

Teachers will set tasks using the Assignments feature. Children should complete their work in their Home Learning exercise books where possible and upload photographs of their work to Teams. Teachers will provide feedback on submitted work.

At 3:00pm each day, children are encouraged to join a live session where:

  • The class novel is shared

  • The day ends with our school prayer

Friday Learning

Friday mornings include:

  • Live RE lesson

  • Live PSHE lesson

  • A whole school celebration assembly: “Lockdown Extravaganza Bonanza”, where we celebrate achievements and birthdays.

Fridays are also our “Fit Friday” wellbeing day, where children take part in activities such as:

  • Friday Mile

  • Mindful colouring

  • Meditation

  • Other wellbeing tasks

These activities encourage children to step away from screens during Friday afternoons.

Pre-recorded collective worship and liturgies are also shared during the week.

Accessing Lessons

All remote learning will take place through Microsoft Teams, which can be accessed via:

  • Laptops

  • Tablets

  • Mobile phones

  • Some gaming consoles

Where possible, we recommend using a laptop or tablet.

Live lessons are recorded and saved in the class “General” channel so that children who are unable to attend live sessions can access the learning later.

Independent Learning

From Monday to Thursday afternoons, children complete independent learning tasks linked to the wider curriculum. These may include:

  • History

  • Geography

  • Science

  • PE

Additional online learning platforms may also be used, including:

  • White Rose Maths

  • TT Rock Stars / Numbots

  • Spelling Shed

  • Maths Shed

  • Purple Mash

A weekly overview of tasks will be uploaded and pinned in each class Teams channel. All tasks should be completed and uploaded by Friday at 3:00pm.

Expected Daily Learning Time

Department for Education guidance suggests the following daily learning time:

  • EYFS: No directed time

  • Key Stage 1: At least 3 hours per day

  • Key Stage 2: At least 4 hours per day

Support with Technology

If your child does not have access to a suitable device or internet connection, please contact the school office and we will do our best to support you.

Parental Support and Engagement

We ask parents and carers to support children by:

  • Helping them maintain a regular daily routine

  • Providing a quiet space to work

  • Encouraging focus and independence

  • Being nearby during live sessions where possible

If anything is unclear, parents can contact the school via the school office and staff will respond as soon as possible.

Monitoring Engagement and Feedback

Teachers will:

  • Review all submitted work

  • Provide feedback and comments where appropriate

  • Discuss answers during live lessons for immediate feedback

If engagement with remote learning is limited, staff will contact families to offer support.

Additional contact will be made with:

  • Pupil Premium families

  • Pupils with SEND

  • Families with clinically vulnerable members

Support for Pupils with SEND

We recognise that remote learning may present additional challenges for some pupils. Staff at St Margaret Clitherow will work closely with parents and carers to ensure pupils with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) can access learning.

Support may include:

  • Differentiated tasks

  • Additional guidance and resources

  • Contact from teachers or support staff when required
